Makalu Trek

The Makalu Base Camp Trek, situated at an elevation of 5,150m, offers an adventurous journey that is kept fresh and invigorating by the stunning beauty of its surroundings. Despite the thrilling nature of the trek, the breathtaking scenery ensures that trekkers remain energized and tireless.

The trek begins at the Makalu Base Camp, located at an altitude of 4,870m, within the Makalu Barun National Park, which was established in 1992. After a flight to Tumlingtar, trekkers make their way to the Arun river valley and then to Num.

Upon crossing Shipton La, a pass at 4,125m, trekkers reach Kalo Pokhari, the Barun river valley, where they get a close view of Makalu and Mount Chamlang. The Makalu Base Camp Trek takes trekkers to the most remote parts of Nepal, offering a classic trekking experience that reaches an altitude of 5,150m.

Although the region lacks modern facilities, the natural beauty and diversity of the surroundings are truly incredible.

The Makalu Barun National Park is home to a rich biodiversity, hosting 3,000 species of flowering plants, 440 species of birds, and 75 species of mammals, including endangered species like the Snow Leopard, Red Panda, Musk Deer, Wild Boar, and Himalayan Thar (also known as the blue mountain goat).

Day 1 Welcome to Nepal TIA airport, Great Panorama Treks staff takes to Hotel and Briefing about trip.
Day 2 Kathmandu city tours and preparation for trek.
Day 3 Flight / Drive to Tumlingtar then drive to Num (1,500m).
Day 4 Trek from Num to Seduwa (1,540m).
Day 5 Trek from Seduwa to Khongma Dingma (3,560m).
Day 6 Trek from Kongma Dingma to Dovate (3,650m).
Day 7 Trek to Yangle Kharka (3,600m).
Day 8 Trek to Lang Male Kharka.
Day 9 Trek to Makalu Base Camp.
Day 10 Excursion on Makalu Base Camp.
Day 11 Trek back to Yangle Kharka.
Day 12 Trek to Dobate
Day 13 Trek to Khongma Dingma.
Day 14 Trek to Seduwa
Day 15 Trek to Num
Day 16 Trek to Tumling tar
Day 17 Flight back to Kathmandu
